Anthony and I looked at a house today. It's actually two houses down from the first house we put an offer on lol! It's a little smaller than the first house (1400 sq. ft. for this one vs. 1500+ sq. ft. for the first one), but the backyard is much more usable (not as much of a slope as that first one). And the deck is HUGE. In some ways it needs more work than the other two (paint colors are ATROCIOUS), but in other ways it's nicer.
Some pictures are ours, some are from Zillow( HouseCollapse )
We put an offer on it, right after we looked it. It's much cheaper than either of the other homes we put an offer on, and the taxes are fairly low too.
Maybe an hour after we looked at the house, and Jon went back to finish filling out the paperwork, he called us. OUR OFFER WAS MOST LIKELY ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since it was listed by another real estate agent who works at the same company he does, they want to keep it in house. There's a few small things he still has to do, but Jon said it's like 80% there. SO WE'LL MOST LIKELY HAVE A HOUSE OMGEDIT: He sent in the preapproval letter and is just awaiting confirmation, so it's about 90% certain that we got it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M FREAKING OUT :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I decided to put off graduating until December 2010 (instead of May 2010). I have way too many classes left to take to squeeze them all into two semesters and fitting them around work.
This is what my schedule looks like for the fall:
ENGL 1210 -- Composition 1 [online, starting 10/26]
ECHS 1710 -- Child Care Management [online, starting 8/26]
ECHS 1400 -- Music and Movement for Children [either Tuesday or Thursday, 6p-9p (I haven't decided yet)]
ECHS 1560 -- Family Day Care Provider [Monday 7p-9p]
MUSC 1260 -- Piano 1 [Saturday 10a-12p]
13 credits total
I can also take Piano Tuesday/Thursday from 11a-12p. Karen, were you still interested in taking Piano? if you wanted to, we could take it T/Th. Let me know if there's room in your schedule.
It sucks that I'll be in school for a semester more than planned, but it won't be as stressful because all of the classes will be spread out more. And I'll have a bit more room in my schedule to take a few other classes that sound interesting but I haven't had the time to take.
Day 4 -- Thursday, May 21st
Today was the day we walked the most -- almost 19 miles in all! My feet were absolutely KILLING me by the end of the day, but it was so worth it.
I have to split this one up into two posts, because there so many freaking pictures!( Oh, I get it now! Central Perk -- Central Park!Collapse )( 5th AvenueCollapse )
Day 3 -- Wednesday, May 20th
Not nearly as many pictures as Tuesday, but we still did a lot of stuff.( Made in ChinaCollapse )( FugeddaboutitCollapse )( Greed is goodCollapse )
Thursday is next, and all about Central Park (and some other places).
EDIT: Are all of the pictures showing up for you? For some reason, when I look at this post, half the pictures are gone!
Day 2 -- Tuesday, May 19th! Today was probably one of my favorite days. It was absolutely gorgeous outside (and for the rest of the trip -- Monday was the only cloudy day) -- in the low 70s and sunny. It was a day spent on a boat, in Greenwich Village and at the top of a building.( A three-hour tour!Collapse )( Greenwich Village and Washington Square ParkCollapse )( Top of the RockCollapse )( The proposal...Collapse )
Tomorrow: Chinatown and Lower Manhattan
It's the post you've all been waiting for...
MY TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY! This is probably going to come in five installments, as I have tons of pictures (over seven hundred). So here it goes...
Day 1 -- Monday, May 18th( Airports and QueensCollapse )( MANHATTAN!Collapse )( Livin' it up at the hotel...Collapse )
Dear Red Wings,
It doesn't matter what the outcome of this year was because you guys will ALWAYS be number one to me. You guys are truly a class act. An 18-year playoff appearance streak and 4 cups in the last 12 years. You guys are the epitome of hockey and I applaud you for an amazing year.
I AM SO PROUD OF EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU.
I have no idea what's going on right now. I am thisclose to crying.
The Penguins don't fucking desereve this. Fuck the Penguins, and fuck the refs.
It's all about making sure Crosbaby gets the Cup this year, isn't it?
I'm currently trying to upload pictures of my New York City trip. 792 pictures. It really shouldn't be as hard as it is.
I usually use Photobucket to upload pictures, because they have a bulk uploader that you can upload an entire folder at once. For some reason, the bulk uploader isn't working. Tinypic doesn't upload more than 5 at a time. On Flickr I can only do 100 mb/month. Image Shack is looking the most promising, but idk yet. I also realized that when I uploaded my pictures to the computer, it changed the order of some, so they're not in the order I took them, which is really frustrating! I just want to give you guys a picture post, but the Computer Gods aren't too keen on the idea.
This is my wedding inspiration so far. Our tenative date so far is May 21, 2011. The theme I'm going for is "vintage, elegant, retro, '50s, garden party". Colors are (obviously) chocolate, ivory, pink and green.
What do you think?( Wedding inspiration boardCollapse )
Just a little something interesting...
The 2009 Eastern Conference Playoffs
Pittsburgh defeats the Flyers
Pittsburgh defeats the Caps
Pittsburgh defeats the Hurricanes
Detroit's last four Cups?
'96-'97 against the Flyers
'97-'98 against the Caps
'01-'02 against the Hurricanes
'07-'08 against the Pens
14 games, 2 to go! I need an excuse to get out of work, should the parade fall on a work day. I'm conflicted, because I would love a sweep, but having the series be 4-1 would also be awesome, because it would mean we win it at home. :D Whatever, so long as we win.
New York update (+ pictures) coming soon, I hope.
Just a quick update!
First, I had the best time in New York City! We walked all over the place (no, seriously, one day, we walked 18.5 miles). I saw EVERYTHING. Pictures and an actual update will be coming later.
Second, I'M ENGAGED! Anthony proposed to me on our anniversary (the 19th) while we were at the top of Rockefeller Center. I have a gorgeous white gold ring with a pink sapphire. I LOVE IT. I'M ENGAGED! :D
That's the exact ring I have. :D It's so sparkly.
Long updates and pictures will come as soon as possible.
That was an utterly bullshit game. The refs made horrible calls the whole night. Absolute bullshit.
FUCK THE DUCKS.
Karen and Ashley:
I know we probably won't watch the game together tomorrow. But what about Games 3 or 4?
Game 3: Tuesday, May 5th @ 10:30p
Game 4: Thursday, May 7th @ 10:30p
|Pres. Obama's 100 Day press conf.|
I started my second job today. I'm a lunch aide at Bellview. It's really not too hard; you just have to make sure the kids don't kill each other. It's a little on the weird side, because that was my elementary school. I've been out of there for ten years (holy crap), but almost all the teachers are still there. Even my kindergarten teacher is still there, and I remember her being older when I had her. It's only five hours each week, but I guess it pays $10/hr, so it'll be great to have some extra pocket money.
Ugh, my freaking power cord for my laptop is broken. I have to leave my cord plugged in, because my battery drains super quickly without it. The wires are splitting so the connection isn't always there. If I move my laptop a certain way, the power goes out and it's on battery, despite being plugged in. I ordered a new power cord, so hopefully it comes like, tomorrow. It's really annoying.
Anthony will be home Saturday! I'm so excited! I haven't seen him in about a month and a half, and now he'll be here for four whole months! :D I just cannot believe how quickly the year of college flew by! One more year and we're both done. Hallelujah!
The Detroit Red Wings just announced the first two times/dates for Games 1 & 2 of the Western Conference semifinals. The rest of the series schedule should be announced later this evening.
Game 1 at Joe Louis Arena - May 1 (Friday) @ 7 p.m. EDT
Game 2 at Joe Louis Arena - May 3 (Sunday) @ 2 p.m. EDT
Ashley and Karen: Are we gonna watch together?
I am so conflicted right now..
The San Jose/Anaheim game is tied 1-1 in the first right now. The series is 3-2, Anaheim.
On one hand, I want Anaheim to knock the 1st place Sharks out of contention.
On the other hand, I want SJ to force a game 7, because Anaheim is a tough team and I don't want the Wings to play them next. Besides, if we eventually ever played SJ (for the Western Conference), they choke under pressure VERY easily
EDIT: Anaheim is up 3-1 right now, going into the third. Hello, Anaheim.
So the Wings are moving on to the second round, and I'll be in Wings Withdrawal for a while. I'm sure some of you will be too.
Allow me to be a total puckbunny for a moment, and follow me to the pretty.( 40Collapse )( 81Collapse )( 19Collapse )( 3Collapse )( 52Collapse )( Ozzie!Collapse )( A non-Wing? Oh yes...Collapse )
Just a little help to get you through the next week or so...
I absolutely love watching hockey games with Karen and Ashley. Karen gets all into it when there's a hit, so it's hilarious. Much better than watching alone.
It was an awesome game tonight! We swept Columbus (hockey hangover, what?!) and it was crazy. They way we were all reacting you would have thought the series was 3-3 and this was a do-or-die game. Columbus outed themselves due to stupidity. Seriously, the "too many men on the ice" penalty is the dumbest one you can get. YOU CAN'T COUNT HAHA. I was hoping Hossa would get a hat trick tonight, because I want my free Arby's, but alas.
Now it's hockey withdrawal time for a little while. Of course, I'll end up watching the other series' play out, because not everyone can finish off a team as quickly as we can. ;) And I gotta find out who we play next.
Sidenote: I've been following the San Jose/Anaheim series the most out of all the playoffs (behind ours, of course). I forgot their game was on tonight and I just found out the score. Anaheim swept SJ tonight 4-0, making their series 3-1 in favor of Anaheim. The 1st place team IN THE NHL is getting killed by the 8th place (Western Conference) team.
SO EXCITED FOR THURSDAY! :D
That is all.
THIRTY DAYS UNTIL I"M IN NEW YORK CITY! One month exactly. I cannot wait. Everything is essentially done. We bought the plane tickets and booked the hotel a few months ago. The itinerary (posted below) is loosely finalized. I guess the only things I have left to do is pack (but not until the weekend before) and buy tickets for different places, if they can be bought in advance. And save up more money, of course.
( New York itinerary...Collapse )
In other news, SUCK IT, COLUMBUS :D
So you all know how I love politics. I was SUPER into the election in 2008. I've loved the schadenfreude and butthurt that's come from the Republicans losing big time. But this week has just taken the cake.( UR DOIN IT WRONG!Collapse )
( Secondly!Collapse )
In short, many LULZ were had by all this week.
I wish the weekends were longer.
Christie and I hung out on Friday. We went shopping, because that's the only way we know how to bond. I got a pair of cute Bermuda shorts from Meijer. We made rice at one in the morning and hung out until three. Then yesterday (Saturday) we went thrifting and regular shopping. I thrifted another skort (a purple one this time) and a green tank top. We also went to Rave in the mall, which was having a huge clearance sale. I got two awesome tank tops for the summer, in navy and yellow, and two camis. I love shopping, but I wish I could spend someon else's money.
Speaking of shopping, is this not the perfect icon?
I have such a strange sleep schedule. I usually don't work until 1 in the afternoon everyday, so I don't have to be up until noon. Therefore, I stay up until at least four in the morning every night. On weekends I'll end up sleeping until 2 or 3 (or later). Every few weekends, I try to "reset" my sleep schedule by not going to sleep on Saturday. This never works because I'll end up falling asleep at 7 AM, and then sleeping until 3. It sucks, because I feel like I waste my day, but I physically cannot make myself sleep any earlier. I have this weird internal conflict, where it feels like I'm missing out on something great at night by going to sleep earlier.
FIVE WEEKS UNTIL I AM IN THE MOST FABULOUS CITY ON EARTH! I am beyond excited. There's going to be so many fabulous places to visit and things to see and do. I really hope I run into a celebrity. That's my penultimate goal, after having a BLAST. 35 days!
PLAYOFFS START ON WEDNESDAY! I'm excited, of course, but also very anxious. Guess who we play in the first round? Columbus :\ It'll be a very tough first round, especially if the Wings don't get it together. I have no idea what is up with them, but I don't like all this losing!
I am also excited for Tuesday.
+ First, it's American Idol Day! This week's theme is apparently "Songs from Movies", and I'm a big fan of songs from movies. I think certain people will definitely rock this week (coughcoughkriscoughcough). American Idol will be complete so long as Lil goes home on Wednesday. Danny being in the bottom 3 would be a huge plus.
+ Secondly, new 18 Kids and Counting. I love that family so fucking much. I guess in this episode, they chronicle Josh and Anna trying to get pregnant/taking pregnancy tests. My theory is that they're not going to devote an episode so that if she's not pregnant, which must mean she is pregnant, so yay!
I wish tomorrow weren't Monday...
|Thank goodness for three day weekends! Bates is closed tomorrow due to Good Friday. We had staff training today, so I got nine hours of work in, as opposed to the usual four or five. I also turned in an application to be a lunch aide at Bellview. It’s only an hour a day (from 11:30 – 12:30), but it pays like $10/hour. An extra $50/week will be a lovely way to support my thrift habit. Unfortunately, I pretty much get to spend all day in doctors’ offices. I have to get a physical/TB test for my 2nd job, and then I have a chiropractor appointment because my back is so messed up. It feels like I pinched my shoulder blade. Fortunately, Christie and I are going to hang out tomorrow night!
I usually watch American Idol every season, but this season I am *so* invested. I’ve actually called and voted for people this season. My favorite this year is Kris (unf unf). Anoop is my second favorite. I think Kris has what it takes to win the entire thing. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why the judges are all over his nuts every week. I also don’t understand the fascination with Adam. He might be talented outside the show, but show that same talent ON Idol. Screeching =/= singing. But, yeah, Kris = UNF.
How can you not love the piano- and guitar-playing Southern boy?! I don't care that he is pocket-sized and I would be an Amazon woman compared to him, there are things I would do to that boy...
There are 38 days until our trip to New York! I worked on our loose itinerary tonight. I’m really excited that this whole thing is coming together. I’ve been planning since February 2008, and it’s so close now! Karen, I promise you will get a shiny souvenir. Anyone else want anything?
I need a haircut. Or new shampoo/conditioner. Or hair products. Something! My hair just looks so greasy and dull and lifeless. Curls are supposed to be bouncy, springy and cute, and mine are not. I just wish I knew somewhere that could give me a good haircut. When I ask for layers, I mean layers. Half my head all one length (no, seriously, the bottom HALF of my hair is all the same length) is NOT layers. I just don’t want to spend a fortune on a haircut. Maybe I just need to learn to cut my own hair?
Three more items, thrifted today.
I AM SUCH AN THRIFT STORE ADDICT.
Some recently thrifted items
I love thrifting. I wonder if I could become a personal shopper, but at thrift stores? I wish I had more disposable income and a large enough closet to thrift all the time.
On Thursday, Anthony came home to be my date to Sarah Anderson's wedding, which was Friday. I love when he's home. He just makes me feel so relaxed and like I don't have a care in the world. :)
Anyway, Sarah's wedding was on Friday. It was so much fun! I really like being able to dress up for events. I wore my thrifted brown dress with orange flowers. I also like picking out things for Anthony to wear. I made him wear black pants, a black jacket, a blue shirt and a pocket square, no tie. He looked sexy. ;) It was Mardi Gras themed and the bridesmaids carried masks instead of bouquets. The food was good and I had a blast dancing. I just wish Anthony had some rhythm. The only thing I didn't like is that there weren't many people out on the dance floor sometimes, which makes me think about my own wedding, because I have a feeling most people won't dance. That makes me sad, because I love dancing. Oh, and there were coconut-flavored cupcakes, instead of cake. The cupcakes were really delicious. I also did my first Jello shot. I have no idea why I did it, because a) I don't drink and b) I hate Jello. I don't know. They were just passing them out to the tables and I got handed one. I held the Jello in my mouth for a few minutes before I could even work up to swallowing it. It was...interesting.
I love love love weddings, because they make me think about my own. I cannot wait to have my own wedding and do all the planning and wear a fancy dress. I definitely look forward to being married also. I can't wait to create a life together and start my own family.
Classes are going fine.
+ I finished up my two online classes. I got an A in one and an A- in the other.
+ Nutrition is killing me. The work isn't hard at all but the class itself is so dull.
+ Sociology is good. I got an A on my last test. The only thing I don't like is that it could interfere with my American Idol time. The class goes until 9, but we almost always get out of there early. This is the first season I've *really* been into AI and now I'm slightly upset that it will interfere. Silly, I know.
+ I dropped my online English class. The professor seemed nutty -- she sent out a 14-page syllabus. All of our assignments had something to do with nature. I just didn't feel like dealing with it. I can always take it over the summer or next fall. I have been putting off taking an English/Composition class in all my years of college, and I have no idea why. It's one of my best subjects, but I just dread having to take it.
I have 50 days until I'm in New York City! I still have to plan the itinerary for us. Not like a structured sort of thing, but just a loose this-place-on-this-day sort of thing. I want to make sure we hit up everything we want to. It'll be so awesome.
I'm probably going to have a second job soon. Anthony's mom told me that Bellview needed noon aides at lunchtime. It's perfect. It would be an hour a week (from like 11:30a -- 12:30p) and then the daycare I work at is *right* across the street from Bellview. The best news? It pays $10/hr, which would be an extra $50/wk.
So that's my life lately...
Edited to add:
I can't believe I forgot to mention this, but
I FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL OF OUR GENERATION AT DOLLAR GENERAL. I FOUND FUCKING DUNKAROOS! I bought two boxes, because those things are like crack. I saw them in the store and literally gasped aloud. When I got home and ate the first little pack, I had major flashbacks. It was delicious. However, it just didn't feel right without the Stick Stickley song playing in the background.
No, seriously, I think I have a problem. In the past five days, I've gone to the thrift stores on four different days.( Hi, my name is Karen and I am a shopaholic...Collapse )
But it's all thrifted stuff, so I guess it's better than buying full price, right? This reminds me that I need to clean out my room and give back to the thrift stores.
Anthony was home last week for his Spring Break, which was fun. We went to the Wings game on Thursday, against Calgary. It was an awesome game, even if they lost. Anthony bought a new camera, a Canon Rebel XSI. We were sitting in the very last row of the Joe, in the corner. At first he was sad because he couldn't zoom in very far, but when he put them on his computer and blew the pics up to actual size, it was incredible! They looked so close!
I'm on Spring Break all this week, but I don't have anything to do. Another reason why I thrift all the time. Karen, I think you're right. I think I'm trying to make up for Anthony being at school by thrifting. I don't do it nearly as much when he's home. Oh well...
I'm really enjoying the warm weather we've been having lately. I broke out the flip flops today! :D:D:D Too bad the weather's going to go back to cold soon. I just want all summer weather all the time.
I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO NEW YORK IN MAY!
May 18th - 23rd, I will be in the world's most wonderful city!
We booked our flight yesterday. We booked the hotel today, although it's not the cute little one I originally wanted to stay at. It's called Hotel 31
and it's in a much better location than the Chelsea Lodge (more centrally located on Manhattan). It's only $96/night, which is cheaper than the other one, but it still has a shared bathroom. I don't really care about having to share a bathroom. I'll be in the greatest city on earth, so I'm not sure why I'll need to be in my hotel much anyway.
Hotel 31 is located near:Empire State Building
- 4 blocks, 5 minutes walkMadison Square Garden
- 5 blocks, 6 minutes walkTimes Square
- 14 blocks, 18 minutes walkRockefeller Center
- 18 blocks, 23 minutes walk
I am so pumped to go! One of my goals on this trip is to meet a celebrity. I've met celebrities before, but only in staged situations. I want to randomly meet a celebrity. My goal is to "run into" Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow. And then, after I regain coherency from meeting Keith, I'll
ask him to take a picture with me...
NEW YORK, HERE I COME!
DETROIT OPERA HOUSE
ANTHONY RAPP AND ADAM PASCAL
I am such a shopaholic. Last Tuesday, I went thrifting and bough two dresses and a book. Then Thursday, I went thrifting again and bought a bunch of books. Yesterday, Christie and I went to the thrift store (where I bought a skirt), Target (where I bought two new pillows) and then Meijer (where I got three pairs of shoes and a shirt). Christie and I went back to Meijer today, where I got another pair of sheos. Over Christmas Break, Steve and Barry's went out of business and I cleaned them out. I got a ton of clothes for about $30. I don't remember the last time I paid full-price for an article of clothing, since everything's on clearance or thrifted, but still. I don't know if you've ever read "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella, but I am exactly like Rebecca Bloomwood. It's kind of scary. I mean, she shops at big name boutiques and everything while I do clearance, but the principle is the same.
[By the way, I would really reccommend "Confessions of a Shopaholic". It's a series, and while I've only gotten as far as the 2nd book, they're HILARIOUS.]
I don't know why I keep buying clothes. The corner of my room by my closet looks like my closet threw up. Clothes EVERYWHERE. I could probably go an entire month without wearing the same shirt twice. I have clothes I have yet to wear (well, a lot of them are summer clothes, so they'll get worn eventually). Just looking at the back of my door, which has my shoe rack: 7 pairs of heels (1 of which was acquired yesterday), 8 pairs of flats (3 pairs acquired yesterday/today), 4 pairs of sneakers and a pair of boots. 20 pieces of footwear. Plus 10-15 pairs of flip flops. THAT'S JUST FOOTWEAR! Some of those I haven't even worn since high school. I really need to go through my closet and get rid of probably half the stuff, since I never wear it.
And just because I love showing off what I bought!( Steve & Barry'sCollapse )
This weekend, Meijer had a clearance sale. It was basically stuff on clearance and then another 50% off the clearance price, which was amazing! So everything was like $3.50.( Meijer clearance sales = LOVECollapse )
Things I've thrifted over the past two months (not including books)( I'm a thrift whoreCollapse )
|I feel like crying (too late)|
Sorry for the same old thing...
I went through our yearbook from Senior year. Out of 152 girls in our graduating class, 15 have had kids or are pregnant currently. If you can't do math, that's TEN PERCENT of the girls in our class.
It's not so much that I want a baby right now. I mean, I do want a bunch of kids eventually, but as of now, I can wait. It's the fact that they have what I want. I'm doing everything "right" and what do I have to show for it? Nothing. I'm sick of having to wait for everything to be "perfect" before anything else happens. I HATE that everything has to follow a stupid specific order. Finish school. Live together. Engaged. Married. Children. It's so set in stone.
But then again, there's no point in being engaged if we can't live together. Which we won't be able to do for another YEAR and some months. And there's no sense in living together for four months over the summer. And what's the point of getting engaged any time soon if we'd have to wait like, three years to get married?
I just hate it. I feel like everyone else has what I want out of life, without doing any work, and I have to work my ass off and it gets me nowhere. What is the point?
I can't believe January's over. The month really flew by, something I'm thrilled about! I can't stand January, February, March or about half of April. Get me some spring weather ASAP. I'm sick of my coat and the freezing weather and the cold and the GRAY. Oh god, the gray. EVEN MY STUPID WINTER COAT IS FREAKING G
RAY. I want hoodies (or even no hoodie, just a shirt!) and flip flops and sun and no snow.
February is here and it's the shortest month! YAY! This Thursday I'm going to visit Anthony up at Tech for Winter Carnival. I honestly cannot believe it's only been three weeks since he left. Urgh, I just cannot wait until we can finally be together for good. Just under a year and a half left.
Let's see, what else?
School's alright. My online classes are pretty cool. I think I'd prefer to take more online classes, if possible. You don't have to actually go to class, and be BORED to death by the professor's lecture, as is the case with my Nutrition class. I just want to die. I check the time on my phone after what I think is like 10 minutes, and it's only been 5. On the other hand, my Sociology class is really awesome, and it's too bad it's only once a week.
Work's also going pretty well. The kids are getting so big now! It's amazing to watch them grow and develop. The language explosion is especially crazy. It's really cool to see them becoming actual people now.
There's 106 days until I go to New York! I am so excited! I've been planning this trip since about January of 2008, and it's awesome that it's so CLOSE! I still have to make reservations at the adorable little hotel
at which we plan to stay. It's European-inspired (you have a little room and a shower in the room but the toilet is in the hallway and you have to share) and really cheap for being in Manhattan ($130-ish/night, rather than $300/night most hotels in the cty would cost). Plus it had excellent reviews on tripadvisor.com. Now I just have to find a cheap flight. We were originally going to do a Grayhound bus, which takes like 14 hours. It was originally going to be $82/person, they raised their prices a lot, and it's now just as much as flying, but takes 7 times longer. Why spend half a day traveling when that time could be better spent traipsing around my favorite city ever?
How adorable is this room?
Yeah, that's about it.
Ugh! Reading weddingplans
is not good for my jealousy! Three intro surveys. One girl and her fiancee have been together 13 months. Another girl is my age , together with her guy for "almost a year". Another girl and her fiancee have been together 6 months (20 at the time of the wedding) and engaged for THREE MONTHS! WTF?!
Anthony and I have will be together three YEARS
come May, and nothing yet. I know we're young and still in college and everything, which makes everything harder and a thousand times more suck-tastical.
Why is it so much to ask to be finished with college, be able to live with him and actually get started on our life together?! I don't need to be married tomorrow. I just want to be engaged and start planning a wedding, so we can move on with our lives.
Holy shit, you guys!
IT'S GEORGE W. BUSH'S LAST DAY AS PRESIDENT!
Unfortunately (very unfortunately), I won't be able to watch the Inauguration of Obama live, due to having to start work at 9a. :( I'm so upset about this. Every other day I start work at about 1:30, and the one day I don't want more hours is the one day I'm scheduled to work early. UGHHH. Hopefully I can find the NPR station and hear it live. I know it'll be replayed forever, but it's not the same. :(
I love thrifting. I love buying $5 clothes and having a massive wardrobe for next-to-nothing. I also love buying books to build up my book collection.
I need a bigger room and closet and/or my own library.( Clothes (mostly tops)Collapse )( Miscellaneous stuffCollapse )( Do you know the Dewey Decimal system?Collapse )
I think I have a serious thift store addiction. No kidding, I go at least once a week. All those tops (and excluding the dress) have been bought in the last week.
Karen, I'm stealing your post formatting.
The semester's almost over, thank goodness.

+ I rarely go to my Econ class anymore. I'm probably going to fail due to lack of class participation. Oops.
+ I won't miss History Goes to the Movies. While watching movies as a class sounds fun, the movies kind of sucked. The professor is a condescending bitch and has probably killed half of America's forests with the amount of paper handouts she gives us. If I can find all of them, I'll take a picture of the stack of articles she's given us over the semester. It's ungodly.
+ I'll miss my other History class just a little. The professor is quite dull, but I enjoy History. And it's an easy A.
+ I'll definitely miss going to my Religion class the most. It's the one class I'm always really excited to go to. The professor is amazing and hilarious. I've come to realize I like learning about religions. I kind of wish it were a two-semester kind of class, because I want more information on the religions. I love the class.
I finally decided what I'm going to do with my life!
+ Screw getting my Bachelor's degree in Education, which was making me miserable.
+ Now I'm going for my Associate in Early Childhood Studies. :D
+ It'll cost me about $5000 altogether, which I can hopefully pay out-of-pocket for the rest of school. Yay for no more student loans!
+ I can always go back for my Bachelor's degree later, but I'm happy with only getting an Associate.
+ If I figured it out correctly, I should graduate May of 2010. Possibly December 2010 if I have to do an extra semester.
Next semester I'll have 12 credits (mainly because all the other classes are too full to register).
+ BIOL-1400 Fundamentals of Nutrition MW, 6p-7:30p.
+ SOCY-1100 Modern Social Problems, T 6p-9p.
+ ECHS-1540 Curriculum Skills Birth to 3 Years online (it's an 8-week class, so after March 11th, it's done).
+ I'm also trying to register for ENGL-1210 Composition 1, which has been a clusterfuck to deal with. But that one will also be online, only from March until May (another 8-weeker).
+ Yeah, the ENGL clusterfuck. You have to take a placement test for any math and English classes you want to take. I took the test on the 1st of December, they said they were going to input my scores in the computer. I scored a 90 (out of 100) so I was definitely able to take Composition. I got to register and, oh hey, "ENGL-1210 prerequisites have not been started." @_@ I spoke to three different people today from Macomb, only to find out that my scores have not yet been put in the computer. WTF. I need that class to be full-time (and so I can graduate on time).
Next Saturday, Christie, Sarah and I are hanging out. Hopefully Courtney can make it too. Roomie Reunion! I haven't seen Sarah since like, May, so that'll be fun.
Maybe one of these days I'll get around to posting pictures from the last two months.
TODAY'S MY BIRTHDAY!
It's also Joe Biden's birthday! AND the birthday of the late Bobby Kennedy! It's an awesome day to have a birthday!
Barack gave Joey cupcakes
yesterday for his birthday. ^_^
Other notable November 20th birthdays: Richard Dawson (the original Family Feud host), Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Joel McHale (host of E!'s The Soup) and Cody Linley (from Hannah Montana).
I'M NOT A TEENAGER ANYMORE! I CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT THOSE DAMN TEENAGER
S NOW! :D

Life is boring.
School's alright. I skip Econ all the time, which my parents are always nagging me about. Seriously, I'm not gonna flunk out of college because I skip *one* class all the time. Plus this year is pointless for me anyway. I really like my Comparative Religions class. The professor's amazing. I've also learned that I really like religious history. My History Goes to the Movies class is still boring. I manage to fall asleep in class every time. It's not my fault -- the class is scheduled during Siesta Time. My other history class is alright. It's super easy, because it's 20th century American history. I have to get working on my final project though (which is due in like two weeks and I've hardly started). I need to fill out another guest application for next semester, so I can register for classes, so I can stay on my parents' insurance. @_@
At work, one of my girls dislocated her elbow on Tuesday while I was watching her. I have no idea how she did it either. I always feel horrible when one of the kids I'm watching gets hurt (even just a bump on the head or something). Other than that, work is work. There are kids to tell no, shoes to tie and diapers to change.
Tomorrow's HSM3 with Karen and her little sister. I'm ridiculously excited about it! I loves me some Zac Efron.
This Thursday is my Golden Birthday (i.e. I'll be 20 on the 20th). Yay! Then on Saturday, Anthony, Christie, Karen, Ashley and I are going out to Olive Garden, Casino Windsor and maybe bowling to celebrate. :)
It's officially Election Day! I'm flailing and squeeing all over the place!
There's a tiny town in New Hampshire called Dixville Notch, which is famous for being the first people allowed to vote on Election Day (at midnight). The results are in and they voted for Obama, 15-6! The last Democrat to win there was Hubert Humphrey in 1968. Holy crap.
I'm so excited about today! EVERYBODY GO VOTE!
Ugh. What is the damn point of getting a degree?! To show that I can spend a ton of money on useless repeating-high-school classes? I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Nothing sounds appealing. I know what I like, but idk if I like it enough to turn it into a career. Why do I have to pick, at 19, what I want to do with the rest of my life? Or not even the rest of my life. I read something online that said the average person changes careers FOUR TO FIVE times in their lifetime. FOUR TO FIVE TIMES. SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF GETTING A DEGREE NOW?
I'm just sick of college and all the bullshit that goes along with it. I hate college. I don't find it fun and haven't since midway through my first semester. And getting a Bachelor's degree is the same as having a high school diploma nowadays, so I'd have to get my Master's anyway and I DON'T WANT IT. I want nothing to do with college. I just want to work the rest of my life. But I can't do that, because if I take time off of school, I can't stay on my parents' insurance and then I can't go to the dentist or chiropractor or have my contatcs because those things are all very expensive and working 18 hours over two weeks won't cut it. I hate working part-time, where I end up working 3-hour days sometimes. I do enjoy my job and the kids there, but a $124 over two weeks is bullshit (yes, that was my last paycheck). I don't know where else to look for another job because I don't have my own car, which makes that sort of thing REALLY SUPER DIFFICULT.
I don't think I want to be a teacher anymore. It's really difficult and for nothing. I'm not good at anything else though. I thought about switching schools because Eastern BLOWS, but idk where to go. I thought about switching my major to American Studies, which would mean I have to transfer to Wayne State, but idk if I want to do that. The AS major seems like a catch-all, BS major. IDK what I want to do with my life anymore.
I just feel like I'm floating through life. Hooray for life crises!
This is from tonight's Countdown with Keith Olbermann <3.
As you may have heard, Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign have been going around this weekend saying Barack Obama "pals around with terrorists". Sarah Palin has closer ties to terrorists than one might think...
Watch it! Tell everyone about it!
( This is a true hero.Collapse )
This is from Barack Obama's speech, introducing Joe Biden as his running mate. If that's not middle class and "main street", I don't know what is. I'll probably post more on the VP debate tomorrow, but I just would like to say that when Joe Biden was talking about their plan for the future, I honestly felt like he was talking to me. I understand now how people felt when FDR gave his speeches.
He's seriously my hero.
This is Katie Couric's interview asking both VP candidates about Roe v. Wade. I've only seen the Palin part posted, but this is both sides.
Do you notice how Joe Biden actually knows what he's talking about? How he goes above and beyond, with actual knowledge, to answer the question, while Palin merely gives a standard textbook response?
Do you honestly find Sarah Palin qualified to do anything? Yes, she's coherent here, but as stoleneyeliner
says, "This video really shows a true vp candidate vs. a beauty pageant contestant." You're honestly delusional if you find her competent enough to be THAT close to the presidency. My love for Joe Biden grows by the day. :D
This entire election has turned into a circus. It’s such a joke. The Republicans in Congress don’t care about the American people AT ALL. You know why the bailout didn’t pass? Apparently, two-thirds of the Republicans voted against it (compared to one-third of Democrats) because of Nancy Pelosi’s speech prior to the vote. She was too mean in criticizing the Bush administration’s policies. While I don’t necessarily agree with the bailout (as I think Wall Street should be held more accountable, rather than letting things fall to Main Street), voting against it because YOUR FEELINGS WERE HURT? Yeah, that shows you really put your country first. John McCain and other supposed leaders said the bailout would pass. Eric Kantor (R-?) led the charge against the bill. Eric Kantor who? Exactly.
This whole election is a fucking joke from the Republican side. It started with the nomination of Sarah Palin for vice presidential candidacy. Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska. I firmly believe this nomination was nothing more than a political ploy, to win over the voters who were in support of Hillary Clinton. Because women clearly vote on the basis that a candidate has similar genitals. I certainly do; don’t you? Sarah Palin is absolutely in over her head. She can’t even form together a coherent sentence. Job creation has to do with the bailout? Her foreign policy experience is based upon the fact that Alaska is near Russia. Not even near, say, the capital of Russia, where all legislation would take place. Nope, just near Russia. She’s been governor of Alaska for two years, if that. TWO YEARS and, somehow, she’s more qualified than Barack Obama? Have you seen the latest SNL skit, parodying the Katie Couric interview? That must’ve been the easiest skit to write, as a good majority of it was VERBATIM. WORD FOR WORD. I don’t want someone with these “credentials” anywhere near the White House. Fuck, I don’t want her as an intern in the White House. As Keith Olbermann put it, she is one seventy-two year old’s heartbeat away from the presidency. That’s a terrifying thought, and that alone should make you rethink things.
But we’re not done yet!
Amidst the Sarah Palin fuckery, John McCain suspends his campaign! Because he’s a Maverick who puts his country first. Absolutely. I want a president who will take a time out when life just gets too hard. I don’t want a president who can multitask and actually lead us. I want the president to be a person with whom I can hang out and drink a beer, someone just like me.
I don’t want a president who’s “just like me”. I want my president to be the best person for the job. I want my president to be the smartest person in the room. I want the goddamn leader of the free world to be a cool, analytical person. For the past eight years, I’ve watched the guy who’s “just like me” run this country. We’re an international laughingstock. We’re more hated now than we’ve probably ever been BY EVERYONE. I don’t want someone with a hot temper to have their finger on the button.
This election is so much more than gay marriage and abortion and gun control. These next four years are a matter of the war in Iraq and our economy and other HUGELY important issues. Right now, we’re putting $10 million a month into Iraq. The Dow Jones took the biggest point drop EVER today. If you’re voting based on social issues at a time like this, I’m just flabbergasted.
Did you watch the first Presidential debate? Barack Obama was cool, collected and forward-thinking. John McCain was so obviously stuck in the past. How many times did he mention Reagan or Normandy (!) or countless other things reminding us just how old he is? Obama gave actual points and plans for this country in the next four years. John McCain told some stories (no, seriously, what does the height of South Koreans have to do with ANYTHING ANYWHERE?!) and repeated the mantras of his campaign. People criticized Obama for agreeing with McCain. Yes, he agreed with him, but after agreeing, he went on to give his plan for this country. McCain couldn’t even look at Obama. His political advisors actually told McCain not to look at Obama, lest he lose his temper. John McCain was supposed to have a huge edge over Obama in the foreign policy department, and they came out even. Doesn’t that tell you something? I DON’T WANT FOUR MORE YEARS OF THE SAME THING.
I’m ready for a change, and I firmly believe that changes comes in the form of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
*You may have the right to your political opinions, but I have the right to think of you as less-than-functionally retarded if you vote McCain/Palin in ‘08.
The final day to register to vote is Monday, October 6th. DO IT!
( Um...what?Collapse )
All of this is essentially to URGE you to vote on November 4th. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE VOTE. It's SO important this election.
I've been thrifting again. :) After Thursday's adventure, I've spent the past two days doing more thrifting. I went to two stores yesterday and found nothing. I went to three stores today and came out of two with stuff. After today, I promised myself no more thrifting for two weeks, until I can go with Christie. Hopefully, by then, more amazing stuff comes in.( Saturday thrifting!Collapse )
I'm finally posting my Hair Saga pictures.( The saga...Collapse )
In other news, I LOVE THE THRIFT STORE. No, seriously. I'd marry it if I could. I went there today, looking for the usual BSC books. I also tried to find something I could base a Halloween costume around. No luck on either of those, but I came out of there feeling like I hit the jackpot.( My finds. Let me show you them.Collapse )
